Did you know your workplaces or condo can receive carbon reduction certification?

      Nowadays, climate change is becoming so serious that the world is experiencing more natural disasters than ever before. Thailand has also been affected by these changes, leading to the recruitment of all methods to eliminate the causes of this situation.

      One of the measures adopted is to try to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of buildings where business operations are located, since the energy consumption rate of businesses is directly related to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. A study of energy consumption by all business sectors in different countries found that the energy consumption in office buildings is increasing, because most of the energy used in the buildings comes from fossil fuel sources. Therefore, a policy was established in Thailand to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions through the Carbon Reduction Certification for Buildings.

      If a building is certified, it shows that it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and is climate friendly. Buildings that can apply for certification as carbon reduction buildings include hospitals, educational institutions, office buildings, condominiums, assembly buildings, theaters, hotels, service buildings, and department stores or shopping centers.

There are several advantages to converting to a carbon reduction building:

 - It helps reduce wasteful expenses of buildings;

 - It reduces the use of unnecessary resources;

 - It reduces water consumption by recirculating water for reuse;

 - It reduces waste that has to be disposed of by the waste management system.

      Entrepreneurs or building operators in the above businesses who are interested in applying for carbon reduction certification for their buildings should contact the Thailand Environment Institute or search for information on how to apply via the website www.tei.or.th. Being certified shows the good intent of the business sector and sets an example of caring about the environment, while also creating a good image for the organization.
