Equal Marriage Law to Take Effect on January 22, 2025

The Royal Gazette has published the Civil and Commercial Code Amendment Act (No. 24), also known as the Equal Marriage Law. The key provision of this law allows two individuals, regardless of gender, to be legally engaged and married.

The current legal terms "man" and "woman" in engagement and marriage will be replaced with "fiancé and fiancée" or "both individuals," and the terms "husband and wife" or "spouses" will be unified as "spouses." Other provisions have also been amended, ensuring equal rights in family matters, asset management, and legal rights for all.

This law will take effect on January 22, 2025, after which individuals will be able to legally register their marriages under the new civil law that recognizes equal marriage rights. This marks a significant step toward creating an open and fair society.
