New Pair of Pandas Set to Arrive, Bringing Adorable Diplomacy to Thai-Chinese Relations

Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), presided over a meeting with related agencies to prepare for the arrival of a new pair of giant pandas from the People's Republic of China. This upcoming arrival coincides with the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese relations in 2025.

Mr. Jatuporn noted that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is ready to welcome and care for the pandas on behalf of the Thai government. The pandas will serve as goodwill ambassadors, strengthening the bond between Thailand and China and capturing the interest of the Thai public. A dedicated space is being designed to ensure a suitable habitat for the pandas, along with exhibit areas where the public will once again have the opportunity to view the pandas up close.

Previously, China sent the first pair of pandas, "Chuang Chuang" and "Lin Hui," in 2003. Later, Lin Hui gave birth to a female panda named "Lin Ping" in 2009, who was later returned to China. The male panda Chuang Chuang passed away in 2019, followed by Lin Hui in 2023, leaving Thailand without any pandas.
