Searching for Premium Rice Varieties! Government Organizing a Thai Jasmine Rice Contest to Promote Quality Rice Varieties to the Global Market.

The government supports the organization of a Thai jasmine rice contest to find the best rice varieties and promote jasmine rice to be more widely recognized. 
Thai jasmine rice is considered a premium rice in the market, distinguished by its long, slender, shiny grains and aroma reminiscent of pandan leaves. It is well-known and highly popular among consumers both domestically and internationally. As a major global rice producer, Thailand was able to export up to 8.76 million tons in 2023, the highest in the past five years. The government recognizes the importance of Thai farmers and has policies in place to increase their income. Therefore, the Thai jasmine rice contest was organized, with farmers from 22 provinces in the northeastern and northern regions submitting their rice for competition to seek out and preserve high-quality Thai jasmine rice. This initiative aims to promote the cultivation of quality jasmine rice, create role models for farmers, meet consumer demand, and strengthen market connections so that winning farmers can enhance the value of their agricultural products and expand sustainable sales channels. The winners will receive a total of over 600,000 baht in prizes.

Additionally, during the event, an MOU was established for the forward sale of paddy jasmine rice at a price 500 baht per ton higher than the market price, with six partners agreeing to purchase over 343.4 tons, ensuring that high-quality rice will have a reliable market.
