Thai workers are known for their high skills and are highly regarded in the Japanese labor market. Recently, a delegation from Thailand's Ministry of Labor met with Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare to strengthen relations and negotiate an increase in the quota for Thai workers in the tourism, caregiving, and construction sectors, as well as for the Osaka Expo 2025.
Thailand's Ministry of Labor expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for taking good care of Thai workers and discussed increasing the employment rate of Thai workers, particularly those with high skills, craftsmanship, and specialized expertise. The Thai side affirmed its respect for Japan's strict laws, ensuring that Thai workers travel to Japan legally. The Japanese side praised Thai workers and promised to consider increasing the quota for Thai labor imports. They also supported the transition from the "Technical Intern Training Program" to the "Skill Development System," which would allow Thai workers to enhance their skills and have the opportunity to stay longer in Japan.
Thailand's Ministry of Labor is committed to expanding labor markets abroad to provide Thai workers with employment opportunities, income, and skill development, especially in Japan, where Thai workers show the most interest. Currently, there are 12,087 Thai technical interns in Japan, with 2,875 being specialized skilled workers.
This discussion not only strengthens the relationship between the two countries but also promotes labor cooperation, benefiting Thai workers and boosting the economies of both nations.
