Good news for both Thais and tourists in Thailand! The “Cell Broadcast Service” (CBS), an emergency alert system through mobile phones, is being developed and tested in Thailand. It will support notifications in five languages: Thai, English, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian. The system is expected to be completed by early 2025 to enhance the safety of everyone within the country.
This project is a collaboration between various agencies, including the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), and True Corporation. The CBS system can send instant emergency alerts to all mobile phones in high-risk areas, covering all service providers without requiring pre-registration. The alerts can be in the form of text messages, images, sounds, and even Text-to-Speech technology for the visually impaired.
The CBS system has five levels of alerts: National Alert, Emergency Alert, Missing Person Alert, Public Safety, and Test Alert, which will help in responding to emergencies quickly and effectively.
The CBS system will enable everyone in Thailand to receive emergency alerts rapidly and efficiently. The government is fully supporting this system to ensure the safety of both Thais and tourists in every region.
