Phi Hua To Cave, a must-visit for history enthusiasts, is located within Than Bok Khorani National Park in Krabi Province. This cave was once home to ancient humans over 3,000 years ago, surrounded by lush mangroves and scenic waterways. Locally known as “Skull Cave” due to the discovery of an unusually large skull inside, the cave also features over 238 ancient paintings that depict the lifestyle and beliefs of early humans.
Inside the cave, natural light streams in, revealing the paintings in vivid detail. Rendered in red, black, and yellow, these illustrations portray human figures, animals, and abstract designs. One notable figure is a person wearing a striped garment reaching the ankles, with what appears to be horns, suggesting it could represent an ancient tribal leader. The cave also contains stunning stalactites and stalagmites formed by accumulated shell remnants, a fascinating natural phenomenon that captivates visitors.
To reach Phi Hua To Cave, visitors take a boat from the park office to Bo Tho Pier, followed by a community-provided transport service covering the remaining 1.6 kilometers to the cave entrance. Beyond the cave’s historical allure, travelers can immerse themselves in the rich mangrove forest, a crucial and preserved part of the ecosystem.
