Procedure – Foreign worker health check-up process for dependent over seven years old

       A health check-up for migrant workers’ dependents who are over seven years old must be performed by a physician registered as a medical practitioner with the Medical Council (nd not in the process of suspension and revocation of the license), with the following details:

1. Collect urine first before proceeding with other tests, because if the examinee is taking Diethylcabamazine before collecting urine, the test results may be affected. The methamphetamine (screening test) may return a false positive and if the woman is not known to be pregnant, it can affect the unborn child.

2. If the urine test for methamphetamine drugs gives a positive result, the result of the health examination is considered a fail and must be classified as Category 3. The applicant for the health examination has the right to request further confirmation, but must be responsible for the expenses incurred for further testing.

3. Every woman should bring urine to test for pregnancy. And a knowledgeable person should give the pregnancy test before proceeding with the X-ray procedure.

4. Take Albendazole (400 mg) according to the indication for use or at the discretion of the examiner to control intestinal parasites.

5. The person should take Diethylcabamazine (300 mg) according to the instructions for use in the presence of the investigating officer. And wait until at least 30 minutes have passed after taking the drug to check for syphilis.

6. Bring blood to check for filariasis parasites.

  • In the event that elephantiasis is found and the person’s appearance is badly affected, the result of the test shall be considered a fail, which is classified in the group of health examination results as type 3.;
  • In the event that elephantiasis is found but does not show any bad disfigurement, the check-up result is classified as type 2, but the person must take medication, Diethylcabamazine 300 mg orally every 6 months for 2 years, and discontinue the drug when the results of the last 2 consecutive blood tests show no filariasis.

7. Bring blood to check for syphilis. If the infection is found and the symptoms of stage 3 syphilis appear, it is considered that the health check-up result is a fail, and will be classified as a type 3 result.

8. Check for leprosy. If the test results reveal leprosy, the check-up will be classified as type 3.

9. Take an X-ray of the lungs. If abnormalities are suspected to be tuberculosis, sputum examination should be performed for confirmation.

10. Ask questions, observe, and consider the assessment of alcoholism. Also look for characteristics of insanity or mental instability.

11. Consider the diagnosis of physical disability that might result in being unable to earn a living; also, having mental instability will be considered as a failure of the health check, and the result will be classified as type 3.
