Thai-Cambodian Rail Transport Cooperation

Thailand has transportation cooperation with neighboring countries. The Thai and Cambodian governments entered into a joint railway agreement  on May 22, 2019 at Dan Border Railway Station, Ban Khlong Luek, Sa Kaeo Province. The Prime Ministers of both countries witnessed the signing ceremony.

In addition, Thailand assisted in supplying railroad tracks, concrete pillows, and other used parts, as per the request letter of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia, which was sent to the Ministry of Transport of Thailand for use in the project. As a result, it has improved the Northern Railway of Cambodia, specifically 60 kilometers on the Mongkhon Buri – Battambong route, which can support the weight of 20 tons per axle, similar to the Northern Railway between Poipet and Mongkhon Buri. The Southern Railway of Cambodia has been completed. The Ministry of Transport delivered equipment to Cambodia on September 6, 2019.
At the second Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) in Thailand, there were bilateral discussions between the Prime Minister of Thailand and the Prime Minister of Cambodia on promoting the Thai-Cambodian rail link. Thailand is ready to support the type of train that works for Cambodia by providing four diesel trams (DMU), training courses, and propulsion of DMU vehicles to Cambodian officials. The ceremony was performed on April 22, 2019, at Dan Border Railway Station, Ban Khlong Luek, Sa Kaeo Province. The Prime Ministers of both countries presided over the ceremony.
