Thailand is famous for medical tourism and is a major destination for foreign tourists. Pushing Thailand towards a comprehensive medical industry or Medical Hub will attract more money into the country, increase employment and create potential for related businesses.
One of the key elements that the government has put in place to drive Thailand towards Thailand Medical Hub is to become a Medical Service Hub in order to promote the development of medical services into Western Medical. The main activities are the establishment of a comprehensive and fast assistance or referral system for foreigners through land, water, air transportation according to the international standards.
Currently, the Ministry of Public Health is in the process of developing and preparing an action plan in line with the draft marine public health strategy. This draft maritime public health strategy has guidelines for establishing standards for marine medical emergencies, Safety Beach and Safety Trip. For Safety Beach, the Naval Medical Department with the body of knowledge is required to establish marine medicine and approaches to working with foreign countries. For Safety Trip, the Department of Disease Control is required to establish operational standards on board and the Department of Medical Services is required to regulate the availability of medical equipment and to comply with the Maritime Public Health Board’s orders.
