Thai-Japan partnership toward a zero-carbon society in the EEC

The development of low-carbon industries in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), following the circular economy concept, involves the implementation of the circular economy to increase the competitiveness of the industry by reducing the risks of raw material shortage, costs in the manufacturing sector, waste, and use of natural resources, including greenhouse gas emissions.

The city of Osaka, Japan, is a partner in the development of net zero-carbon emissions to drive the Thailand 4.0 policy in order to strengthen the cooperation in building a low-carbon society through knowledge-sharing activities related to the policy. It will also strive for net zero emissions in the EEC area, the creation of new investment projects related to net zero emissions, information exchange, and upgrading projects related to green and circular economy in the EEC.

As a metropolis with the second-highest GPP (gross regional and provincial product) in Japan and one of the top 10 cities in the world for GPP, Osaka stands out in pushing its environmental goals. Osaka is home to the headquarters and R&D bases of many leading companies. The cooperation between them is an important gateway to private sector companies in Osaka that are interested in investing in EEC, especially in the low-carbon economy.

In the past, Japanese private businesses had cooperated with Thailand to study approaches to raising the standards of industrial estates to reduce carbon emissions, reduce energy consumption, maximize energy management efficiency, and switch to a variety of clean energy in the EEC, such as solar energy, bioenergy, hydrogen energy, as well as upgrading zero-emission transportation and energy management systems. In addition, BCG model-oriented investments are ways to upgrade businesses and make them part of a smart and sustainable industry.
