Thailand and Belgium Prepare to Sign Health Insurance Agreement for Belgian Retirees in Thailand

On August 27, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health and the Belgian Ambassador discussed the establishment of a memorandum of understanding regarding health insurance to care for Belgian retirees and tourists in Thailand.

The objectives of this cooperation are:

  • Healthcare: To ensure that retirees residing in Thailand (approximately 3,600 people) and tourists receive treatment in public hospitals and can claim medical expenses through Belgium's health insurance fund.
  • Building Confidence: To instill confidence in Belgian investors and tourists that they will receive quality medical care.

A working group comprising various agencies, such as the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Tourism, has been established to finalize the agreement. A meeting is expected between the relevant ministries and the Belgian Embassy to conclude the cooperation within this year. This presents an opportunity for health and tourism businesses to develop products and services that meet the needs of these customer groups, as well as to explore partnerships with public and private sectors in Thailand and Belgium to develop services catering to the elderly market and tourists.

Support for health insurance will not only assist individuals but also create opportunities for stability and growth in new markets for entrepreneurs!
