WHO Praises Thailand for Addressing Alcohol Issues to Protect Vulnerable Populations

Policies for Alcohol Control as a Sustainable Health Option in Thailand: The World Health Organization (WHO), along with global experts, has emphasized that alcohol control policies play a crucial role in reducing health disparities in society. However, implementation often faces pressure from the alcohol industry that interferes with policy.

Data from WHO indicates that 56% of the global population does not consume alcohol. However, drinking is associated with 2.6 million deaths annually. Good policies can mitigate this issue by controlling prices and access to alcoholic beverages. Experts recommend that Thailand consider amending laws to prevent business interference and focus on the quality of life and welfare of the public. Additionally, tourism promotion should target health and cultural tourism, which not only enhances the country's positive image but also generates higher economic value.

Thus, alcohol control is a vital tool for creating a healthy and sustainable society, emphasizing collaboration from all sectors to effectively address the issue.
