The Candle Festival

The Candle Festival

The Candle Festival marks the beginning of Buddhist Lent, when beautifully hand-carved wax sculptures are paraded through the streets in a stunning display of faith, art, and tradition.

Traditionally, Buddhist devotees offered candles to monks so they would have light for reading and religious practices during the three-month rainy retreat, when monks remain in their temples. Over time, this simple act of merit-making evolved into an extraordinary cultural celebration, with giant wax sculptures replacing ordinary candles.

Don't miss the chance to witness breathtaking candle carvings, vibrant parades, traditional performances, and the rich heritage of Northeastern Thailand.
