Thailand Strengthens Support for Southern Fruit Growers and Export Markets

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun visited Chumphon Province on 8 August 2026 to meet representatives from the public and private sectors and inspect the production and marketing situation of fruits, particularly durian, in the southern region.

During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister outlined policies for managing southern fruit production and marketing, observed the sorting and packing of premium durians for export, participated in an activity marking the shipment of quality durians for overseas markets, and toured a frozen durian production facility.

Mr. Nopporn Utsit, President of the Chumphon Provincial Administrative Organization, welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister and highlighted the importance of addressing agricultural price challenges, particularly for key economic crops, such as durian and coconut.

Dr. Chatkamon Mungpayaban, President of the Chumphon Fruit Growers Association, said that cooperation between Chumphon Province and the Ministry of Commerce focuses on strengthening market stability and sustainability. The Ministry has supported farmers by providing free fruit packaging boxes to reduce their production costs and facilitating fruit distribution to both domestic and international markets, as well as through online trade.

The Ministry’s “Green Flag” initiative has also helped farmers cut production costs, in terms of production factors including fertilizers and agricultural chemicals. Over the past month, participating farmers in Chumphon have been able to lower their production costs by
