Thailand Hopeful for GBC Border Talks

Following a meeting of the National Security Council, Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai reported receiving a briefing from the Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee secretariat on discussions held from August 4th to 6th, which indicated a favorable trend. He stated that full details would be released after tomorrow’s session on later today, August 7th. Phumtham confirmed he provided guidance to Deputy Minister of Defence General Nattaphon Narkphanit to achieve the best possible outcome, adding that border demarcation issues would not be part of the discussions.

General Nattaphon later expressed 90 percent confidence that the ministerial-level GBC talks would conclude successfully. He noted that while there are some concerns, he believes the presence of international observers will ensure a smooth process.

To address public confusion from multiple information sources, General Nattaphon clarified that the Ad Hoc Centre for Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation is the designated authority for security and situational updates. The Government Spokesperson will provide supplementary information on related topics, such as aid and relief measures.
