Thailand and Japan Expand Environmental Cooperation

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin has led a Thai delegation to Japan for talks on expanding cooperation in environmental and geological resource management. The recent discussions with Japanese Environment Minister Hirotaka Ishihara were held under the Memorandum of Cooperation on Environmental Cooperation between the two countries.

The Thai delegation included Ambassador of Thailand to Tokyo Witchu Vejjajiva, Permanent Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Raweewan Bhuridej, Department of Mineral Resources Director-General Yongyut Nakawiroj, and other senior ministry officials.

During the gathering, both parties exchanged views on cooperation in critical minerals for future industries and clean energy, the circular economy, environmental pollution management, water quality monitoring in transboundary river basins, mine rehabilitation, and measures to reduce geological risks through monitoring and early warning systems. The two sides also discussed geoparks, hot-spring resources, dinosaur studies, paleontology, and research to support conservation tourism.

Minister Ishihara also conveyed condolences on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita and expressed Japan's readiness to cooperate in research, technology transfer, expert exchanges, and personnel development.
