MOPH Advance Digital Health Wallet to Put Citizens in Control of Their Health Data

The Ministry of Public Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) are advancing the development of a Digital Health Wallet, a major initiative aimed at transforming the country's healthcare system by giving people greater control over their own health information while enabling seamless medical data sharing across healthcare providers.

The initiative supports Thailand's transition toward a patient-centered digital healthcare system and positions the country as one of the regional pilot nations—alongside Indonesia and Lao PDR—to develop international standards for cross-border digital health data exchange under the WHO framework.

The Digital Health Wallet will allow individuals to securely own and manage their personal health records, including medical history, laboratory results, prescriptions, and other essential health information. Citizens will be able to control who can access their data through a highly secure digital platform that meets international standards.

The system is expected to improve continuity of care by enabling healthcare providers to quickly access essential medical information, reducing duplicate tests and streamlining treatment across different hospitals and clinics. This will enhance the overall quality, efficiency, and accessibility of healthcare services.

The Digital Health Wallet will be especially beneficial for migrant workers, international travelers, frequent cross-border commuters, and patients receiving treatment at multiple healthcare facilities, allowing them to securely carry and share their health records wherever they go without relying on paper documents.

The Ministry of Public Health and WHO believe the initiative will lay the foundation for a globally connected digital health ecosystem and strengthen Thailand's role in shaping the future of international healthcare interoperability.
