Applying for a change of visa type to receive a retirement visa, for foreigners who want to stay in Thailand for a long time

       Elderly foreigners aged 50 years old or more who want to change the type of visa to stay in Thailand long-term should follow the following steps to get a Non-immigrant “O” visa, i.e., a retirement visa.

       Applicants must have a TM.86 form, only for foreigners with a tourist visa or transit visa, to change the type of visa, or a TM.87 form, only foreigners who do not have a visa but are allowed to stay in the Kingdom, type P.30, PP.30 and PP.90, to obtain a visa. A copy of the passport (showing the personal information page, entry stamp, and residence permit stamp (if any)) and the departure card (TM.6) is also required, as well as a photograph size 4x6 cm or 2 inches, plus 2,000 baht as a fee.

       In addition, they must present a passbook and certificate of balance from a bank in Thailand (in Thai) with at least 800,000 baht in the account, evidence of transferring foreign currency into Thailand, a certified letter from the embassy or consulate of the foreigner in Thailand or abroad to show that the foreigner is a person with a pension of not less than 65,000 baht per month, as well as having a house rental contract or condo purchase agreement, and house registration, house map and house rent receipts for the past three months. 

       The application must be made with more than 15 days left on the current visa, and permission may be granted for no more than 90 days. If the remaining period is less than 15 days, submitting a request will not be allowed. 


Additional rules:

1. The applicant must come to apply in person every time;

2. The applicant must have a residential notification according to Section 38 together with evidence of a residential notification;

3. The applicant must sign every page of the document to certify them
