The Ministry of Interior extends the visa-free period to 45 days

        On 20 September 2022, the Cabinet approved an extension of the period for allowing certain types of aliens to stay in the Kingdom as a special case from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023; details are as follows:

  1. An alien applying for a Visa on Arrival visa may extend their stay from no more than 15 days to no more than 30 days;
  2. An alien with a passport from a country whose government has entered into an agreement with the Thai government for visa exemption from the original stay of no more than 30 days have had their stay extended to no more than 45 days;
  3. Aliens entering the Kingdom temporarily who are exempt from visa type Por.30, which is a measure that Thailand allows unilaterally, have had their stay extended from 30 days to 45 days.


        The meeting of the COVID-19 Situation Management Committee or the 11th/65th FAC, held on 19 August 2022, approved the Ministry of Interior’s plan to proceed with the extension of the period of residence of foreigners entering Thailand, in order to encourage domestic travel and let visitors stay longer in Thailand, thus increasing the length of time that tourists spend money during their stay in Thailand, thereby revitalizing the tourism economy and healing the impact of COVID-19.
