Rafting along the Khek River

Khek River is a medium-sized river located in Wang Nok Nang Aen Subdistrict, Wang Thong District, Phitsanulok Province. It can be said that it is one of the top rafting places in Thailand that should not be missed because the challenge of rafting in the middle of this river is considered to have a very high level of difficulty up to level 5 (Level 5 is very difficult, has high flowing water, requires high technique and experience in paddling skills). The total distance of rafting along the Khek River is about 8 kilometers with 18 rapids.

The Khek River originates from the Phetchabun Mountains in Khao Kho District, flows through Thung Salaeng Luang National Park in the area of Nong Mae Na Unit, Phitsanulok Province and runs parallel to Highway No. 12 (Phitsanulok - Lom Sak).

Rafting along the Khek River is an adventure tourism activity that is only offered every year from the start of the rainy season until the start of the winter (from about June to early November). This is because the Khek River needs to receive consistent rain for several days in order to raise the water level to the point where rafting can be done. The color of the river during the rafting season is reddish-brown from the muddy sediment suspended in the turbulent river. It is different from the nature of the stream from mid-winter to early summer which is lazily flowing and is quite clear and light green.

The usual standard route used for rafting activities along the Khek River is located between Kaeng Sopha Subdistrict and Wang Nok Aen Subdistrict, Wang Thong District, Phitsanulok Province. The starting point for rafting is at Ban Tha Kham and continues until before reaching the Kaeng Song Waterfall.
