Traveling around Thailand

Traveling around Thailand

Traveling around Thailand can be done by land, air, and water, with many means of transportation for tourists to choose.

By Land: Modern, well-maintained roads go through all provinces in Thailand.

  • A variety of vehicles for land travel are available.

  • Buses are available for both short and long distances.

  • In every province, there are tour buses, buses, trains, vans, and minibuses that run short distances for local travel.

  • Taxi services are available in Bangkok and major provinces such as Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Chonburi, Phuket, and Surat Thani. The tuk-tuk, a three-wheeled vehicle with a unique design that has become one of the symbols of Thailand, is a type of taxi available only in Bangkok and some provinces.

  • There are “motorcycle taxis” available in most side roads, called soi, that can take people where they want to go, but they are best used for a short distance. As for rental cars, there are car rental service centers everywhere, where cars, motorcycles, and even bicycles are available.

  • Motorcycles or bicycles in Thailand are quite convenient because they are clearly signposted in both Thai and English.

By Water:
There are many rivers and canals in Thailand.  There are also beautiful seas on both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman coast. Nowadays, although there are fewer canals in Bangkok, there are still many canals with passenger boats running to transport people to various piers. There are also boats that serve tourists for specific tourism activities, such as sightseeing boats, boats that take them to snorkeling, fishing, squid fishing, or other activities.

By Air: Thailand has many domestic airlines routes.  Although the services are not available in every province or city, air services cover the entire country, especially the provinces with popular tourist attractions, and land connections are easy from them. As for Bangkok, there are two main airports: Don Mueang Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Chartered aircraft are also available for those who wish to fly with more privacy and freedom.
