Logistics

          Logistics and infrastructure play a key role in raising the nation’s competitiveness. A 20-year national strategy (2018–2037) has been developed by the government, providing a framework and development principles for all government institutions.  

          A transportation strategy has been developed by the Ministry of Transport as the first phase of the action plan (2020–2022) to serve as a framework for running and putting up a plan for infrastructure investment in all dimensions, with an end date of 2022. 

          The second phase of the drive plan (2023 – 2027) aims to reduce Thailand’s logistics cost per GDP and increase Thailand's international logistics efficiency. The action plan was set as follows:

- Increase transportation efficiency and attract investment
- Increase the capacity of the main airport (Suvarnabhumi/Don Muang/U-Tapao) from 80 million people/year to 120 million people/year
- Increase the capacity of Laem Chabang Deep Sea Port from 7 million containers/year to 18 million containers/year
- Increase travel speed from Bangkok to major cities from 80 km/hr to 120 km/hr
- Increase the speed of passenger trains from 60 km/hr to 100 km/hr
- Increase the speed of the freight train from 40 km/hr to 60 km/hr
- Increase the electric train network in Bangkok and its vicinity to complete 14 lines, covering a distance of 554 km from the current 11 lines, covering a distance of 212 km.
- Increase the dual-track railway network and solve the problem of railway intersections to 1,111 km.
- Increase regional connectivity with Thai-Laos-China trains and trains connecting 3 airports
- Increase the opportunity to build the country's future with MR, MAP, and Landbridge projects

         The goal is to drive Thailand's transportation system Phase 2 according to the 20-year national strategy to reduce Thailand’s logistics costs per GDP less than 11%, rail freight per total freight volume increase to 7%, Proportion of travel by public transport in the district Bangkok and its vicinity per total travel not less than 10%, and major cities in the region not less than 40%, and reduce the death rate from road accidents at 12 people per 100,000 population.
