Thailand Joins Forces with France for Developing Thai Rail System.

Railway System.

According to the 20-year National Strategic Master Plan, the expansion of Thailand’s “Railway System” is a crucial choice by the government to encourage investment and the Thai economy to become more competitive (2018-2037). The Ministry of Transport is a pioneer in the development of technology and innovation, and Thailand is the hub of the rail system connecting Thailand to the rest of the globe.

In this regard, the “Railway Technology Research and Development Institute” (Public Organization) was established in order to develop a strategy for research and development of novel technology with certification of standards, testing systems, and evaluating the quality of rail systems as a center for transferring rail technology in the region, as well as for staff development and creation of pertinent databases with rail technology.

The Thai-French Cooperation Declaration is a framework for cooperation between Thailand and France in the transport sector, and it is regarded as a pilot for collaboration and synergy with the French companies Rail Technology Research and Development Institute and Rail Industry Group, which have expertise in rail technology that is well-known around the world.

In this cooperation, there will be concrete synergies in various areas, including

     1. Creation of the Rail Academy to develop personnel both at the level of highly skilled technicians and expert engineers.

     2. Creation of cooperation between the French private sector and the Thai private sector to create an industry for manufacturing rail system parts within the country (Local Content) expects Thai entrepreneurs to be strong and able to compete on the global stage.

     3. Research and development jointly transfers rail technology and innovation between France’s leading rail business group and Thailand’s R&D network.

The Ministry of Transport anticipates that this collaboration will make Thailand a hub for the ASEAN region's exchange of rail technology and innovation, promoting the training of workers in order to support the country’s 4,000 kilometers of dual-track, as well as the development of environmentally friendly rail systems like electric train (EV) technology, with goals to make the SRT area, particularly in Bangkok, a pollutant-free zone.
