How close is the Eastern Fruit Corridor (EFC) project?

           "Eastern Fruit Corridor": EFC is a project that aims to make the eastern region the "Fruit Capital of the World" due to the potential of the eastern region that can combined "Agriculture sector" with "Industry sector " in the EEC Special Economic Zone, and the eastern region is already considered as the major source of many kinds of fruits in Thailand.

           The project is located in an area of more than 40 rai in Smart Park Industrial Estate, Rayong Province. The goal of the project is to standardize the trading system internationally, connect with traders in the world market, and provide a product auction system that allows farmers to have bargaining power and sell products at higher prices, creating quality products according to market demand.

          The project also constructs a large cold storage system (Blast freezer & Cold storage) to collect fruits in the east and other areas across the country that are picked out in the same period for sale during the shortage season in new, and fresh condition as one of the major projects by PTT Public Co. Ltd. that has piloted cooperation with the government sector in investing in a modern 4,000-ton fruit cold storage, using cooling energy from liquefied natural gas (LNG) with Blast freezer technology that can keep the quality of the fruit as fresh as if it had just been picked from the garden and cold storage system that will maintain the quality of the fruit so that it can be sold throughout the year.

            The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), has provided an area in the initial stage of 40 rai by defining part of the Smart Park Industrial Estate in Map Ta Phut, Rayong Province, which has been declared as a special economic promotion zone that will receive benefits according to EEC measures and the Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Office (EEC) coordinate cooperation to promote benefits for government agencies and private sectors to jointly develop cold storage systems and fruit-related industries, within the project including a warehouse, logistics and packaging building, cooperative office building for management of hundreds of thousands of tons of incoming fruit.      

            The government also has a plan to expand the EFC into a fruit market investment project and a digital platform that covers production process management, e-commerce, and e- auction platforms, to support international trade, and Freight Forwarding System. by setting up a factory area with cold storage that has a capacity of 10,000 tons of fruit near the durian planting area as a mechanism to maintain a price balance, the factory aim to operate in December 2022
