Public transportation in Bangkok

       When it comes to traveling and living in a congested city like Bangkok. Let’s look at what systems are used by the people of this city to reach their destination in a time-saving and affordable way. 

1. Land transport

  • Bus
    • Regular buses (Cream-Red), the fare is 8 - 10 baht.
    • Air-conditioned buses: 1. Blue-Cream, 2. Euro II (Yellow-Orange), 3. PBC (White), 4.NGV (Blue).
    • The fare is 12 - 25 baht (depending on the distance) and an additional 2 baht fare is charged if the car runs on the expressway.
    • Routes: Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan
    • Bus service hours: Daily 5:00 AM. - 11:00 PM, except regular buses which operate all-night (Cream-Red) during 11:00 PM. - 5:00 AM. The fare is 9.50 baht throughout the route.

  • Taxi
    • Fares : Starting at 35 baht by the meter and with step-wise fare by step based on distance.
    • For Taxis from Don Mueang Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport: 50 baht surcharge is charged.
    • Failure to turn on the meter and charge a flat fee is an offense. If you experience this behavior, please call Hotline 1584. 
  • Moto-taxi
    • Fares: Starting at 10 baht and increase by the distance.
    • The Ministry of Transport has set the starting fare of not exceeding 25 baht for the first 2 kilometers. The fare for the next distance is not exceeding 5 baht per kilometer. If the distance is more than 15 kilometers, the fare shall be according to the agreement before using the service to prevent excessive fare.

2. Rail transport

  • BTS Sky Train
    • Light Green Line: (Sukhumvit Line) Khu Khot - Kheha
    • Dark Green Line: National Stadium - Bang Wa
    • Golden Line: Krung Thon - Khlong San

Fares: 16-59 baht (depending on distance). The fare for the Golden Line is 15 baht.

  • MRT Subway
    • Blue Line: Hua Lamphong - Bang Khae and Bang Sue - Tha Phra

      • Fares: 17–42 baht (depending on distance)
      • Bus service hours : Daily 06:00 AM – 12:00 AM and 05.30 AM – 12:00 AM (Purple Line).

3. Water transport

Chao Phraya Express Boat

  • Orange flag : The fare is 16 baht throughout the route.
    • Nonthaburi - Wat Ratchasingkhon
      • Mon- Fri : 06.00 AM-06:10 PM/Sat - Public holidays : 07:30 AM–5:00 PM/Sun : 09:00 AM–5:00 PM)
    • Wat Ratchasingkhon - Nonthaburi
      • Mon - Fri : 06:00 AM–06:10 PM/Sat - Public holidays : 08:30 AM–05:30 PM/Sun : 10:30 AM–5:30 PM)
  • Yellow Flag: The fare is 21 baht throughout the route.
    • Nonthaburi - Sathorn : Mon - Fri 06:00 AM – 08:05 AM
    • Sathorn - Nonthaburi : Mon - Fri 5.05 PM – 07:05 PM
  • Green and Yellow Flags : The fare is 21 baht throughout the route.
    • Pak Kret - Sathorn : Mon - Fri 06:00 AM – 07:45 AM
    • Sathorn - Pak Kret : Mon - Fri 03:50 PM – 05:45 PM
  • Red Flag : The fare is 30 baht throughout the route.
    • Nonthaburi - Sathorn : Mon - Fri 06:15 AM – 07:25 AM

    • Fares: 12 - 22 baht (depending on distance)

4. Air transport

         Don Mueang Airport/Suvarnabhumi Airport: For round trips of both domestic and international passengers, information on flight services and ticket prices can be directly obtained from each airline or reserve and buy tickets through the website or application of the airline. To travel to both airports, you can use different types of vehicles as mentioned above.
