ADC Submarine Cable Strengthening Digital Investment in Thailand

International internet networks through several projects.

From the Thai government has promoted Thailand to be the ASEAN Digital Hub or a center of digital information exchange in the ASEAN region by continually increasing the efficiency of international internet networks through several projects.

One of these is a construction of a new international submarine cable network (ASIA Direct Cable: ADC), which is a joint construction of a new submarine cable system connecting Thailand with other countries, together with members of 6 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, namely Thailand, China, Singapore, the Philippines, Japan and Vietnam, with a distance of 9,400 kilometers and a budget of 2,000 million baht.

In current status, system construction contractors and members carry out Project Management Plan and Quality Assurance Review and Marine Route Survey activities on the northern side of the system and Hong Kong territorial waters, Desktop Study Review and Product Design Review, as well as production of cables and repeaters, some of which have been completed and are under the Marine Route Survey on the southern side of the system, which is in the process of handing over the license in the fourth quarter of last year (2022).
As a result of this investment, Thailand has a variety of direct routes that support the use of 9 Tbps on the route Thailand to Hong Kong, Thailand to Singapore and Hong Kong to Japan.

However, previously there was a project to increase the network capacity to connect to the border to connect with Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar and to supply equipment to increase the network capacity to connect to submarine cable stations in Chonburi, Phetchaburi, Songkhla, Satun provinces. The total capacity is 2,300 Gbps, which is currently supplying and installing equipment at various stations across the country, totaling 151 stations, completed and operational since 2021.

There is also a project to expand the international submarine cable network capacity of the existing system totaling 1,770 Gbps and 1,190 Gbps now in use by 2021, resulting in reduction of international data exchange charges ( IIG) by 45 - 50% and the International Individual Lease Circuit (IPLC) by 30%, which is 20% lower than the specified service rate. And this project also provides large service providers through an open internet network. (Over-The-Top : OTT) to set up servers in Thailand to be a service hub again.

Nevertheless, the development of the ADC cable system is considered to support the business of international content providers (International Content Providers) and also facilitates advanced technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT). ), smart city and Big Data.
