ETDA DIGITAL CITIZEN: A project to pass on knowledge to digital citizens and establish an online media safe haven

The ETDA DIGITAL CITIZEN (EDC) is a project aimed at disseminating knowledge to the digital society, a crucial initiative of the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) or the ETDA. It sets a direction to promote a resilient society, equipped with a defense mechanism against online media misuse. This entails elevating the societal knowledge level by applying the knowledge, expertise, and experiences of ETDA staff to develop guidelines, curricula, activities, campaigns, trainers, as well as create and distribute media in various formats for generational knowledge transfer.

The project primarily focuses on "Creative and Secure Internet Use," along with collaboration between government and private sector partners. The ETDA has developed the ETDA DIGITAL CITIZEN (EDC) curriculum within the Thai context, comprising five areas for youngsters, elderly people, and anyone interested in catching up with the digital society.

The EDC curriculum includes a framework of five skill areas, namely:

  1. Digital Identity, highlighting the importance of managing personal information online, including intellectual property rights.
  2. Appropriate Digital Use, relating to time management, health impacts, and potential emotional and psychological issues.
  3. Digital Security, recognizing online threats, risky behaviors, and tools or methods for prevention and handling.
  4. Digital Literacy, such as searching, analyzing, evaluating online content, and creative content production.
  5. Digital Communication, fostering creative cooperation in the digital world, yielding benefits for users in various forms.
