City Data Platform: An approach to Smart City development

The Smart City concept has been integrated as a policy in the development of the country, aligning with the Thailand 4.0 initiative and the 20-year national strategy. It utilizes contemporary technology and innovation to enhance service efficiency and city management, under the principles of developing livable and modern cities. The aim is for the urban population to enjoy good quality of life and sustainable happiness.

The "City Data Platform (CDP)" is a city data platform and one of the five guidelines for developing a smart city. The CDP development framework allows city leaders to use it in establishing city management policies, for developers in designing technical paths, and for citizens to gain understanding and appreciate the importance of the CDP, encouraging participation in the provision and use of data services.

The CDP is an integration of technology with personnel involved in data linkage, used to enhance decision-making efficiency and lead to better quality city development and service delivery. It is the essential core of a smart city that places citizens' needs and problems at the center of sustainable city advancement.

Each city's development trajectory varies in aspects such as population, environment, economy, and society. Typically, each sector has separate service systems for the public and different objectives, causing city data generated from various services to be scattered and not consolidated appropriately for further development.

Therefore, the Digital Economy Promotion Agency, or depa, has strategies and mechanisms to systematically and sustainably drive smart city development through the CDP, serving as a hub for collecting digital data. Such data may include tourism information, safety and environmental data, real estate information, etc., enabling connectivity and data exchange between public sector agencies, the private sector, and citizens in a systematic manner.
