"The Prachin Pomelo and Ban Phon Milk Jujube” registered as Geographical Indication products, generating income for local communities."

The Prachin Pomelo from Prachin Buri Province and the Ban Phon Milk Jujube from Kalasin Province have been registered as Geographical Indication (GI) products. These locally unique and quality products not only add value to their respective goods but also generate income for farmers in the area.

The Department of Intellectual Property has registered both the Prachin Pomelo and the Ban Phon Milk Jujube as GI products. These fruits, known for their outstanding quality and distinct flavors, are well-known commodities of their respective provinces.

The Prachin Pomelo comprises several varieties such as Thong Dee, Khao Nampheng, Khao Yao, and Khao Tangkwa. It is known for its sweet taste, non-astringent and non-sourness properties, thin skin, and abundant flesh. The fruit is exclusively grown and produced in Prachin Buri Province and generates an annual income of over 100 million baht.

The Ban Phon Milk Jujube is distinctive for its fine white, juicy, and crispy flesh. It is sweet in taste, round or oblong in shape, has green or light green skin, and thin peel. Its peduncle is deeply grooved. It is grown and produced in the Kham Muang and Sam Chai districts of Kalasin Province, generating an annual income of over 21 million baht for the local farmers.

Currently, the Department of Intellectual Property has registered GI products covering all provinces nationwide, strengthening the grassroots economy and improving the quality of life for farmers and entrepreneurs by preventing agricultural product price suppression. This also enhances the value of products and increases consumer demand.
