A product design patent is the right granted by the state to protect the design of a product. Designers may apply to register for a design patent, which involves the following steps:

Supporting documents required for registering a design patent

1. Copy of national ID card;
2. Copy of power of attorney;
3. Copy of juristic person certificate (issued within the last 6 months);
4. Patent/ petty patent application;
5. Copy of certification of applicant’s right to apply for a patent/ petty patent;
6. Request for amendment/ correction of patent/ petty patent application;
7. Request for opposition of patent application (Form Sor Por / Sor Phor / Or Sor Por / 007-Kor);
8. Request for filing the counterstatement (Form Sor Por / Sor Phor / Or Sor Por / 008-Kor);
9. Request to submit additional evidence or statements (Form Sor Por / Sor Phor / Or Sor Por / 007-Kor (Por)).

Registration fees for product design patent:

1. Request for new application:                                             250 baht
2. Request for additional modifications application:                   50 baht
3. Request for opposition / counterstatement application:        250 baht
4. Request for advertisement announcement application:         250 baht
5. Request for registration and issuance of patent application:   250 baht

Processing time: 11 months, and 123 days

There are two channels available for service:

1. Service channel at the public service center on the 3rd floor of the Department of Intellectual Property, 563 Nonthaburi Road, Bang Krasor Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nonthaburi Province 11000, or at the Office of Commercial Affairs in every province;
2. Online service channel via central data center for businesses/ government contact and the government's electronic service system at www.ipthailand.go.th, or through the government electronic application. Applicants must submit their documents to the Department of Intellectual Property within 15 days.
