Driving new food industries with support from the BCG model

     When the BCG model is applied in the food sector, in addition to driving the original food industry, it also focuses on new food industry segments, niche foods, functional foods, and functional ingredients with a new food group strategy. It is a new opportunity to upgrade the country's food industry based on the strength of raw materials from agriculture and biological resources of the country, by applying them to the changing trends in consumer demand for food, together with technological changes. This leads to the development of new food products or new functional ingredients for food applications or related industries, along with infrastructure development to support the test analysis and clinical trials for new product registrations. Although this group of foods has not yet been produced as a large industry in the country, it has a high market potential.

 In addition, the government must develop many areas to push new food industry into the world market:

  • To develop research to create new innovations for creating new products;
  • To invest in infrastructure that supports food development with health claims, such as CRO for food;
  • To build a pilot factory that meets GMP standards or an OEM facility for scaling up;
  • To educate consumers who lack knowledge and understanding of new foods.
