Technology is an important contribution to the development of the agricultural sector. Access to technology and innovation, as well as the development of agricultural technology around the world, has been able to create food and nutrition security. This is one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations: to eradicate world hunger by 2030. Thailand has also created channels that allow farmers to access knowledge, discussed below.
The government has established a technology transfer promotion agency. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives established the Agricultural Technology Center (Agritech and Innovation Center, or AIC) on 30 January 2020, to serve as a service resource for farmers. It gathers knowledge involving technology and agricultural innovation, which can be applied for further development of production, not to mention reducing costs and helping them upgrade product quality and standards. The center’s work is integrated with six partners, namely the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry, the agricultural sector, educational institutions, and the private sector, through the establishment of one AIC center in each province, as well as an Excellence Center for each type of agricultural product. Also, specialized agricultural technologies will be developed to support AIC and integrated agribusiness. Technology transfer through farmer development is a mechanism for disseminating knowledge from farmers to other farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives selects farmers with agricultural expertise to act as assistant government officials for disseminating knowledge. These farmers are called Agricultural Volunteers, and Thailand currently has about 240,000 agricultural volunteers.
The Youth Building Nation Project is an operation of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation. Graduates who hold a bachelor's degree from no more than five years before, and students and fresh graduates can apply the knowledge, technology, and innovation to further develop the community.
