It is said to be sacred with the legend of Mae Nak’s strong love for her loving, kind husband. Sadly, while she was waiting for her husband to finish his service in the army,  she died, along with her unborn child. Her love was so strong that, when her husband finally returned, her ghost was still in their home, and he couldn’t even tell that she and the baby were ghosts. This famous story has been made into movies and television series. Many visitors, convinced by Mae Nak’s unwavering devotion to her spouse, make the temple their pilgrimage of choice when seeking love and happiness.

     You may bring your own flowers, incense, and candles to the shrine in honor of the Yanak, or you may purchase these things there, along with clear instructions on how to properly pay your respects: light two incense sticks, one candle, and either a garland or flowers. A gold plate will be placed atop Yanak after the staff has lit joss sticks and candles at the base of the monument. Gilding the face, eyes, and lips is prohibited; however, gilding her palm is allowed. Moon oil and water should not be poured over the Yanak, nor should offerings of food or drink be sprinkled on the Yanak. Dogs are not allowed in the Yanak Shrine region.

     The Yanak Shrine is located at the end of Wat Mahabut and is open from 7:30 a.m to 5:30 p.m. Wat Mahabut is situated on Soi On Nut 7, Sukhumvit Road soi 77; the closest BTS station is On Nut. It is accessible by both private vehicle and public transportation.
