Understanding the importation of donated items, especially vehicles

      The Customs Department has published information on imports of donations, which refer to the goods imported or exported for donation and carried out by government agencies or charitable organizations, or the goods imported to be given to government agencies under with the rules and conditions prescribed by the Director-General of the Customs Department, with the approval of the Minister of Finance.

      However, donations do not include motor cars or motor vehicles for the transport of no more than nine persons including the driver, except for ambulances, trucks in the type of van and pickup and similar motor vehicles, with gross vehicle weight not exceeding five tons and such motor cars with gross vehicle weight exceeding five tons and compression-ignition internal combustion piston engine (diesel or semi-diesel) or those that have ignition with spark. 

      "Government agencies” refers to central government agencies, provincial government agencies, local government  agencies, and other state agencies, but excluding state enterprises under the Budgetary Procedure Act.
