Non-immigrant “O-X” long-stay visa requirements

Foreigners wishing to stay in Thailand for a long term with a Non-immigrant "O-X" visa must meet certain criteria, as follows:

1. Those wishing to stay for a long term with a Non-immigrant “O-X” visa must be over 50 years of age;

2. Hold a passport or a document in lieu of passport of the following countries: Japan, Australia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Canada, or United States of America; 

3. Have a fixed deposit in a Thai commercial bank located in Thailand or have a fixed deposit in a Thai commercial bank located in Thailand and have a regular annual income providing fixed deposits equivalent to the exchange rate of not less than 3,000,000 baht, or having fixed deposits equivalent to the exchange rate of not less than 1,800,000 baht, and having an annual income of not less than 1,2000,000 baht, and must have a deposit of not less than 3,000,000 baht within 1 year. Once reaching maturity, it may be withdrawn only for domestic expenses, such as medical treatment, housing purchase, vehicle purchase, and children’s education. However, the remaining balance in the account must not fall to less than 1,500,000 baht;

4. Provide a document or evidence certifying the conduct or a criminal record certificate from the country of which the foreigner is a national, and if the foreigner has a permanent residence in another country, such document or evidence from that country is also required;

5. Have a Thai health insurance policy covering the entire period of stay in the Kingdom, with the sum insured for medical expenses of not less than 40,000 baht in the case of out-patient care and not less than 400,000 baht to cover in-patient care; 

6. In the case of the foreigner's spouse, the qualifications under items 2, 3, 4, and 5 must be met;

7. In the case of a legitimate child of a foreigner, aged not over 20 years old, the qualifications under item 5 must be met.

Important note: 

         After obtaining a visa, the foreigner must come back for a qualification check every year at the local immigration office and must report him/herself within 90 days.
