The development of the autonomous vehicle industry in Thailand has taken another step forward. The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) revealed that the ministry has assigned the Department of Science Service (DSS) to expedite the T-CAV (Testing Center for Autonomous Vehicle) project at EECi Wangchan Valley, Rayong Province, to elevate the Thai automotive industry to international standards.
This project spans a period of 4 years (2022 - 2025) and includes the construction of a test field for autonomous vehicle navigation systems, as well as testing the driving systems of electric vehicles (EVs) and telecommunication systems such as WiFi, 4G LTE, and 5G. The aim is to evaluate the performance of navigation programs and safety enhancement programs during driving. Additionally, the project will test signal connections between control centers and autonomous vehicles or between autonomous vehicles according to international standards.
The T-CAV project will also focus on testing the performance and safety of 4 innovative assisted/automated driving systems: the autonomous electric vehicle (BYD e6), autonomous electric golf cart, high-precision GNSS-based movement data collection system, and autonomous delivery robots.
The T-CAV project is expected to be fully operational by 2025, which will help propel Thailand's modern automotive industry to international standards and stimulate investment in the EEC area. It is anticipated that the modern automotive industry will create economic value for the country, elevating Thailand's automotive industry to be internationally recognized and attracting investment from leading global companies.
