Professor Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, signed an agreement at IFAD’s headquarters in Rome, Italy, with Mr. Alvaro Lario, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), to establish an IFAD regional office for Asia and the Pacific in Thailand. This office will position Thailand as a hub for specialized UN agricultural and food agencies, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and IFAD.
Professor Dr. Narumon stated that the establishment of the IFAD office in Thailand will enhance Thailand’s image and role on the international stage, highlighting global confidence in the nation.
IFAD President Alvaro Lario expressed that choosing Thailand as the sole Asia-Pacific base recognizes Thailand’s position as a regional agricultural center with experienced personnel and expertise and signifies a commitment to ongoing cooperation in the future.
