"Phu Phra Bat Historical Park" Thailand's 5th Cultural World Heritage Site

"Phu Phra Bat Historical Park" in Udon Thani  has been registered as Thailand's 5th cultural World Heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The site is recognized under the name "Phu Phrabat: A Testimony to the Sīma Stone Tradition of the Dvaravati Period."

This park showcases the civilization of prehistoric humans, dating back approximately 2,500 to 3,000 years, with evidence of continuous use as a religious site into historical times. The unique feature of Phu Phra Bat Historical Park is its large, mushroom-shaped rock formations on a natural stone plateau, surrounded by eight large sandstone boundary markers known as "Ho Nang Usa."

UNESCO's declaration has made Phu Phra Bat Historical Park the 8th World Heritage site in Thailand and the 5th Cultural World Heritage site, as well as the 2nd World Heritage site in Udon Thani, following Ban Chiang Archaeological Site.
