Sacred Ceremony Held to Construct Pavilion for the Buddha's Relic (Tooth Relic) Honoring His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary

On October 30, 2024, a sacred ceremony was held to commence the construction of a pavilion that will temporarily house the Buddha’s Relic (Tooth Relic) from the People's Republic of China, in honor of His Majesty the King’s 72nd birthday on July 28, 2024. This ceremony also celebrates the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations.

The Thai and Chinese governments agreed to bring the Buddha’s Relic from Lingguang Temple in Beijing to be enshrined at Sanam Luang in Bangkok from December 4, 2024, to February 14, 2025, a period of 73 days. The relic will be returned to China on February 15, 2025.

The Department of Fine Arts has designed the pavilion to blend Chinese and Thai artistic elements, reflecting the beauty and cultural diversity of both nations. The Chinese government has previously permitted the Tooth Relic to be enshrined abroad on six occasions, including its first enshrinement in Thailand in 2002 at Buddha Monthon during the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. This significant event is a moment of great reverence for both Thai and Chinese Buddhists, and the public is invited to pay respects to the Buddha’s Relic during this auspicious time.
