Thailand on High Alert for Earthquake Preparedness Coordinated Efforts Across Agencies to Prevent and Reduce Disaster Risks

Following a powerful 8.2-magnitude earthquake centered in Myanmar on March 28, 2025, Thai government agencies have united in a comprehensive response to protect lives and swiftly restore at-risk areas with precision and urgency.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has directed NBT to serve as the central hub for 24-hour information dissemination across all channels. The government is working in close coordination with all sectors, focusing on immediate alerts, building safety inspections, and mobilizing private sector resources to ensure the public receives accurate information and is well-prepared to respond.

Agencies have implemented joint measures to prevent and reduce disaster risks, including:

  • The national police chief has ordered officers nationwide to provide immediate assistance to affected communities, deploying teams to ensure safety and support for the public.
  • The Governor of Bangkok has established a special command center, mobilizing medical and rescue teams to incident sites and preparing to offer aid in all scenarios.
  • Airports of Thailand is inspecting the structural integrity of six airports across the country, confirming compliance with international safety standards and maintaining normal operations so travelers can proceed with confidence.
  • The Ministry of Public Health has set up emergency operation centers in high-risk areas, preparing medical teams, supplies, and standby ambulances to provide comprehensive health protection for citizens.
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is updating disaster information in multiple languages to ensure that foreigners in Thailand receive timely assistance.

These collaborative actions reflect the principle of “Prevention, Rapid Response, Sustainable Recovery,” supported by a real-time disaster monitoring system and in-depth risk assessments to minimize impacts on lives and property—because “every life matters.”
