TV5MONDE Showcases Isan’s Cultural Heritage and Soft Power in Special Documentary

French television network TV5MONDE has aired a special documentary, Destination Francophonie: Thailand, showcasing the cultural richness and soft-power strengths of Thailand’s northeastern region (Isan) to international audiences. The program highlights the region’s traditional way of life, vibrant cultural festivals, natural attractions, renowned cuisine, hand-woven textiles, and its global significance as a major site for dinosaur fossil discoveries. It also features the growing popularity of French-language education in schools and universities across the region.

The documentary explores the close ties between Thai and French communities in northeastern Thailand, highlighting the contributions of French expatriates and cultural organizations. It features the work of the Terres d’Isan et de France Association and the Thai-French Cultural Center, which promote cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and community engagement. The program also showcases the international reach of Thai soft power through the successful exhibition of Isan silk at the Taulignan Silk Museum in France.

Following the broadcast, Nakhon Ratchasima Province partnered with the Terres d’Isan et de France Association to organize promotional activities aimed at boosting tourism in northeastern Thailand. The initiative supports efforts to strengthen tourism, educational cooperation, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people relations between Thailand and France, while further enhancing the global profile of the Isan region.
