Thailand makes history! The Department of Livestock announces a successful negotiation to export the native Ayam Bangkok chicken breed to Indonesia for the first time. Following international standard certification (VHC) from Indonesia’s DGLASH, exports are set to begin in April 2025, targeting 12,000 chickens in the first year, valued at 300 million baht annually.
The Ayam Bangkok chicken is prized for its tender, naturally sweet meat and halal certification, making it highly sought after by Indonesia’s Muslim population of over 230 million. It perfectly suits local dishes like “Ayam Goreng.”
This agreement benefits Thailand by boosting farmers’ incomes and strengthening the country’s image as the “ASEAN hub for quality livestock production.”
Additionally, Indonesia is interested in learning from Thailand’s foot-and-mouth disease prevention methods and livestock breeding improvements, paving the way for expanding exports of beef and dairy cattle in the future. In 2024, Thailand’s livestock exports to Indonesia reached 4.6 billion baht, highlighting rapid growth potential and reaffirming Thailand’s readiness to export agricultural products and build sustainable economic networks.
