Thailand’s Homegrown “TSC-1” Satellite Achieves Major Milestone, Prepares for Launch Simulation Next Year

On 18 April 2026, Prof. Dr. Yossanan Wongsawas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), visited the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) in Chiang Mai to monitor the progress of the Thai Space Consortium (TSC) in developing the TSC-1 satellite, marking a significant step for Thailand’s space industry.

During the visit, many key facilities were presented, including the advanced optics laboratory, the radio astronomy laboratory, and the satellite assembly clean room. These play a crucial role in assembling and testing the satellite’s complex engineering systems and ensuring readiness for space-grade operations.

The satellite, weighing under 100 kg, has now reached 60% of its engineering model phase and successfully passed various simulation tests, including thermal vacuum, radiation resistance, and vibration testing. With these achievements, the satellite will be developed into flight model phase, intended for launch by 2027.

This progress reflects Thailand’s transition from a technology user to a developer, strengthening its "Deep Tech" industry, cultivating skilled professionals, and advancing the country’s long-term space economy.
