Thailand’s Commerce, Energy and Finance Ministries Join Forces to Support Vulnerable Groups Amid Oil Price Volatility

The Thai government is strengthening cooperation across key economic agencies to address the impact of global oil price fluctuations on the public and the broader economy. The Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Finance are working together to closely monitor the situation and implement coordinated measures aimed at protecting vulnerable groups, including low-income households, farmers, and businesses affected by rising energy costs. The joint effort reflects the government’s commitment to easing the cost-of-living burden while maintaining economic stability during a period of global uncertainty.

A senior government leader overseeing the initiative said the three ministries are integrating policy efforts and sharing information to assess the effects of volatile global oil prices on domestic expenses, such as transportation costs, food prices, production expenses, and everyday consumer goods. The collaboration focuses on preventing rising business costs from being fully passed on to consumers, while also ensuring targeted assistance for groups most affected by the situation. Planned support measures will prioritize low-income earners, transport operators, farmers, and businesses facing increased operational costs, with the goal of stabilizing livelihoods and sustaining economic activity.

Authorities will also continue monitoring the entire oil pricing structure—from refining and transportation to retail distribution—to ensure transparency and prices that reflect actual costs. The government is considering the introduction of a flexible refinery margin framework to maintain balance between industry operators and consumers. At the same time, efforts are underway to strengthen Thailand’s energy security by exploring additional energy sources and expanding procurement options to reduce exposure to global market volatility. Officials emphasize that strict action will be taken against hoarding or unfair trade practices, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting consumers and guiding the country through energy market fluctuations with stability and confidence.
