Thailand is welcoming the Thai New Year with two major cultural celebrations in Bangkok, highlighting the country’s vibrant traditions and growing global appeal. The Tourism Authority of Thailand is hosting the **Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2026** at Benchakitti Park and the **Saneh Art by Songkran Festival 2026** at Lumphini Park. These events celebrate the spirit of Songkran while reinforcing its recognition by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, further strengthening Thailand’s reputation as a leading destination for world-class festivals.
According to Nat Kruthasoot, the celebrations reflect Thailand’s tourism strategy focused on quality experiences that connect culture, creativity, and community. The Maha Songkran World Water Festival showcases the country’s cultural identity through a vibrant programme that includes a grand opening ceremony, the Maha Songkran parade, cultural performances, contemporary showcases, and a spectacular drone light display. Visitors can also explore themed zones representing Thailand’s five regions, enjoy traditional temple fair activities, build sand pagodas, and participate in the symbolic Buddha bathing ceremony, creating a rich and immersive Thai New Year experience.
Meanwhile, the Saneh Art by Songkran Festival highlights Thailand’s creative spirit through contemporary art inspired by traditional culture. Six large-scale sculptures by Thai artists are displayed throughout Lumphini Park, accompanied by art talks, creative workshops, local markets, and traditional Thai games during the Songkran period. Authorities expect the festival season to generate strong tourism momentum, with projected revenue exceeding 30 billion baht and nearly six million domestic trips. The celebrations demonstrate Thailand’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage, creative industries, and sustainable tourism while wa warmly welcoming visitors from around the world to experience the joy of Songkran.
