Thailand Showcases Muay Thai in Berlin to Strengthen Cultural and Defense Ties with Germany

On August 2, 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin, in collaboration with the Thai Armed Forces, organized a Muay Thai promotional event to enhance knowledge and understanding of Muay Thai and to strengthen people-to-people relations between Thailand and Germany. Ms. Chompoonute Chompookam, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy, presided over the opening ceremony at Elite Kickboxing Gym, Berlin. The event was attended by more than 50 participants, including Germans interested in Muay Thai, trainers, representatives from the German public and private sectors, members of the diplomatic corps, and the general public.

The main activities consisted of (1) Basic Muay Thai training, such as punching, hooking, kicking, and elbowing techniques; and (2) A cultural demonstration of the Wai Khru ritual and Mae Mai Muay Thai (traditional techniques), conducted by five Muay Thai instructors, former champions with extensive experience, led by Lieutenant Colonel Mahesak Chinmatra, Chief Trainer and author of the official military Muay Thai training manual, and with the presence of Major General Pongchat Kampanlanuwong, Director of Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

In addition, the Royal Thai Embassy organized a Muay Thai cultural event at Berlin’s Thai Park on Württembergische Straße in the afternoon of the same day. The program featured the Wai Khru rituals, traditional Muay Thai movements (Mae Mai Muay Thai) demonstrations, and recreational activities, attracting over 100 attendees.

The team of Muay Thai instructors, led by Lieutenant General A-wut Phuttamnuay, Chief of the Thai Muay Thai Training Team, visited Germany to conduct Muay Thai training for the German Armed Forces from July 25 to August 5, 2025, as part of ongoing bilateral cooperation in cultural and defense exchanges.
