Thailand Shifts to Flood Recovery as Rainfall Eases; Suvarnabhumi Clears Baggage Backlog

Rainfall has eased across Bangkok and much of Thailand, according to the Joint Information Communication Center (JICC) in its 29 September update, though several areas remain under water.

■ In Bangkok, three communities are still significantly flooded: Ram Inthra, Khlong Chan, and Rom Klao. Officials expect conditions to return to normal within two to three days, as long as heavy rain does not return.
Residents along the Mae Klong River in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Samut Songkhram have been warned of possible rising water levels.

■ In the east, Prachin Buri, Rayong, and Sa Kaeo remain under close watch. Floodwaters in Kabin Buri have peaked and should recede as the rain lets up, but downstream flows toward Mueang Prachin Buri could still overtop flood barriers.
The public is urged to follow official updates and check with local officials before evacuating or returning home.

■ At Suvarnabhumi Airport, baggage delays continue. Flooding around the airport has reduced staff availability at Thai Airways, and customs processing has added to the backlog. Sixty-nine military personnel have been deployed to assist, and authorities expect the remaining baggage issues to be cleared within about a week.
