Thailand Ranks 3rd for Digital Nomads, 4th for Retirees in Rumavi Global Index

Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Perisvivatana has announced that Thailand ranks third globally for digital nomads and fourth for retirees, according to the Rumavi Global Relocation Index 2026. These rankings, recently featured by VnExpress International and The Star, underscore Thailand's increasing appeal as a destination for long-term living and remote work.

The index evaluated 192 countries and territories, awarding Thailand a score of 75.4 for digital nomads, behind only Malaysia and Portugal. For retirees, Thailand scored 74.3, following Malaysia, Panama, and Portugal. Thailand ranks second in ASEAN for both categories. The assessment highlighted the country's affordable cost of living at 96.9, strong currency and banking at 91.8, digital infrastructure at 89.4, and healthcare quality and cost at 78.

​The deputy spokesperson stated that the government sees these rankings as a significant economic opportunity. Attracting foreign digital nomads and retirees for extended stays can generate steady revenue across sectors such as accommodation, food, transportation, and healthcare. She emphasized that the main objective is to move beyond increasing tourist numbers and instead focus on maximizing the economic value and length of visitor stays year-round.

The spokesperson stated that the government will build on these strengths by advancing the digital economy, service sectors, and wellness industries. Authorities will prioritize developing digital infrastructure for remote workers and improving senior care services for retirees.

​The government also plans to address areas for improvement identified in the index, including English language proficiency, business opportunities, and the rule of law, to ensure Thailand remains an attractive destination for long-term residency and investment.
