Thailand pays tribute to King Chulalongkorn the Great (Rama V)

Every year on 23 October, Thailand pays tribute to King Chulalongkorn the Great (Rama V), one of the most beloved monarchs in Thai history, on the anniversary of his passing in 1910.

Known as the "Beloved Great King," His Majesty led Thailand (then Siam) through an era of remarkable transformation — abolishing slavery, modernizing the nation, and preserving its independence at a time when much of the region fell under colonial rule.

His vision and compassion continue to inspire generations of Thais, and his legacy lives on in the hearts of the people he served.

On this solemn day, Thais across the country gather to lay wreaths and pay their respects at monuments nationwide, a quiet but powerful expression of gratitude for a king who shaped modern Thailand.

King Chulalongkorn the Great — forever remembered, forever honored.
